Fair Child: Chapter 3 Creating

Fair Child: Chapter 3 Creating: "By creating a product with the information from part one of chapter three, we were forced to take apart the information given to us and put ..."

Reflection

After viewing various interpretations of our groups' sharing of information, I am blown away by the creativity that was shown. The chapter's main points were made in ways that were funny, insightful, and memorable. I will associate Pink's ideas with these presentations from now on, and have a deeper understanding of his meaning. Students can be given opportunities to share their knowledge using creative ways such as these, and more that I am not capable of at this time. We truly are not bound by walls with this new technology, and the freedom it allows is mind-bogling. Our students can be engaged in conversations world-wide and with people who have different view points, with the result that they become global citizens.

Thing 5

began life as a right-brainer, but along the way, I moved more and more toward left-brain dominant. I was rewarded for the logical, linear thinking that goes along with that, while the creative, dreamer-type was not. However, as the book points out, that type of thinking can no longer be sustained if we as a nation are to keep moving forward. I loved the fact that MFA's are now very sought after while MBA's are finding it difficult to enter the job market. As I age, I am looking more to the aesthetics of life and not so much to the quantity of what I can buy.

Thing 4

I really like hearing what people think about this new learning and how it can be used at their campuses. If enough people become a part of these 21st Century teams, our district can really move forward to the point that our students already are. My first comment was not as good as I hope to get as I use this tool more and more. On-line learning communities are such a great way to communicate and share ideas with others with like interests around the globe. I can use this tool to help gather information and opinions about educational trends that will make my teaching richer. I was a member of an on-line community when I was doing my Masters on-line through ASU. That community allowed us to share ideas and new learnings and to offer support to others who were in classes with me. It was a great experience.

Thing 3

I looked at several widgets that were offered for free, but ended up only adding the Subscription and my profile. These two will be immediately useful, and I can then take my time and think about whether others will add value. There are so many choices out there that it will be important to make wise choices and not clutter up the site. However, I still want to learn how to add pictures and become more agile in my use of the blog.

Thing2

The internet has morphed from another way of referencing material to an interactive medium that allows people to communicate and collaborate on projects with others from around the world. Traditional classrooms and paper/pencil/textbook are no longer relevant to learners of today, and they see no value in working in isolation using outdated materials. Technology is moving so fast that students will live in a world that didn't exist for their parents. As educators, we must change our mindsets and gain a proficiency in technology that can be challenging and move us way outside of our comfort zone. Only then can we truly empower our students to become learners in the 21st century.
